It’s Been 5 Weeks…

The last five weeks have mostly been a blur, filled with more challenges, decisions, and emotions than I can even begin to count. But for the first time since the day of the fire, it feels like there is finally a light at the end of the tunnel.

This week, my dad and brother moved into what will be their home for the next year. Most of the major details and logistics have finally been taken care of, and everyone is took a much-needed break this past weekend to catch their breath.

My brother’s leg is healing well, and he’s doing everything he’s supposed to be doing to get back on his feet. Instead of a traditional cast, he has a rod secured with eight pins, so he won’t be able to put any weight on it until his doctor gives the okay. It’s a slow process, but he’s making progress, and we’re grateful for every step forward.

I’ll be staying in the AirBnb this week to wrap up a few remaining details before heading home. Next week, Dad can begin the long process of clearing the property, demolishing what remains of the house, and eventually rebuilding. One thing they’ve already decided is that the new house will be a single-story home. After the fire and the heartbreaking loss of both dogs, neither of them has any desire to live in a two-story house again, and honestly, I can’t say I blame them.

The dogs have been cremated and are now resting in their little urns beside Mom. Her urn made it through the fire, but she needed a new one. It brings us comfort knowing they’re all together.

I hope those of you in the southern U.S. who are dealing with the nasty weather that’s been tearing through Texas – and what’s left of Tropical Storm Arthur moving across the South – are doing okay. It was pretty scary here Friday night. We were under a tornado warning, so I spent about half an hour in the bathtub watching the radar as the storm moved across Mobile Bay. Not exactly how I planned to spend the evening, but thankfully everything passed without incident, at least on the street that I’m staying on. Several trees came down in this area, but I think the worst damage was to a fence line.

In the midst of everything, I do have some exciting news to share. I have officially signed a contract with another shop and am settling in. I’ll be opening there in a few weeks with a new collection and will be sharing more details very soon. I’m looking forward to this next chapter and can’t wait to tell you all about it 🙂 If you’re not signed up for my newsletter yet, you can do that :here:

Hugs and love to you all, and see you soon!
